The Holy Michael Foundation is a non-profit corporation established for the sole purpose of supporting the ministry and mission of St. Michael’s. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors, including the Rector and lay members directly appointed by the Vestry.
ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
Established in part with a bequest from the estate of the late Robert S. Slaughter, a St. Michael’s parishioner, the Foundation’s goal is to increase and sustain sufficient capital to create a stream of investment income for the long-term benefit of the parish. The board may distribute grants annually not to exceed 4.5% of the average balance of the assets, provided the average is $1 million or more.
Grants may be used for special programs, initiatives and ministries of the parish or improvements of the Church’s physical assets. To learn more about the Holy Michael Foundation, contact Catherine Fain, Director of Development.
2020
The Holy Michael Foundation awarded its first grants in 2020.
$20,000 – The Women’s Center of Raleigh
$12,500 – The Green Chair Project
$5,000 – StepUp Ministry
$5,000 – St. Michael’s Refugee Ministry
2021
In 2021, the foundation awarded $50,000 to King’s Ridge, a new housing community for Raleigh’s homeless population. St. Michael’s was the first church to support this initiative. Ground has been broken! Read more about King’s Ridge in the Winter 2022 issue of Archangel.
2022
In 2022, foundation grants supported health care initiatives for two organizations critical to helping employed, under-insured individuals and families in our area.

2023
In 2023, the Holy Michael Foundation split its grant-making between two very distinct but impactful efforts: one grant was given to the Diocese campaign to raise funds to build a new church home for the parishioners of St. Michael and All Angels of Charlotte; a second was given to Southlight Healthcare, a trusted provider of quality service for substance use and mental health treatment needs in the Triangle.
