Youth Ministry

The St. Michael's Episcopal Youth Community, or EYC, is among our most vibrant parish ministries. Lead by Abby Van Noppen, our Director of Youth Ministry, and a team of adult leaders, the EYC meets regularly for youth group, bible study, fellowship, and fun events.


2017-18 Weekly Schedule

September 2017 - May 2018

Sundays

5 - 6:30 p.m. — Jr EYC — 6th-8th grades
6 - 7:30  p.m.  Sr EYC — 9th-12th grades
(6 - 6:30 p.m. - Dinner for all)

Wednesdays

5 - 6 p.m.  — Middle School Bible Study
For grades 6-8, we explore stories in the bible incorporating games, activities and more! Moe's provided for dinner.

7 - 8 p.m. —  High School Bible Study
For grades 9-12, we focus on how God is revealed to us through daily life. Snacks or pizza provided. Meet in the youth room.


Abby

Abby Van Noppen
Director of Youth Ministry

Abby joined our team in February 2014 after directing the Y Guides program for the YMCA of the Triangle. A lifelong Episcopalian, Abby brings her infectious energy to everything she does, and has a wealth of experience working with children and teens. She has also served as Health and Wellness director for the Chapel Hill YMCA and as assistant director of Campus Recreation for Elon University. She and her husband, Chance, have a three-year-old daughter, Maggie.

Beat the back-to-school heat and join us for fellowship and ice cream! All 6th-12th graders and parents are invited. Come find out all that Youth Ministry has to offer - EYC, bible studies, small groups, retreats and more! We'll have fun games for students and a parent info meeting. We'll also be handing out the 2017-18 youth ministry calendar!

Fall Retreat

Camp Cheerio, NC
October 6-8, 2017

All 6-12 grade students are welcome on this fun-filled weekend in the mountains! Enjoy everything that beautiful Camp Cheerio has to offer. We can't wait for all of the activities and our campfire ceremony! Fun, fellowship and growing together in our faith. It's going to be a great weekend!

Where | Camp Cheerio - Glade Valley, NC
Drop-off at church on Friday, Oct. 6 at 3:30pm. Expected arrival time on Sunday, is 2pm.
Cost | $175
What To Bring | One bag, sleeping bag/pillow, money for 2 fast-food meals, towel, toiletries, flip flops for shower, clothing for wet/cool-cold weather, hat/gloves, tennis shoes, flashlight!

For grades 9-12, we meet in the youth room for fellowship with a focus on the living Word.
We'll explore stories in the bible and see just how relevant they are in our lives today.

IT'S BACK! Place your order for Moravian chicken pies, chicken pot pies, baked spaghetti, and cream cheese brownies. Mrs. Pumpkin’s Bakery-Deli in Winston-Salem will prepare the food and deliver it on Nov. 19, after the 9:30am service. Proceeds will support the Summer 2018 Youth Missions.

Cost | Varies on items purchased: $13-16 per item or 3 for $36.

For all 6-12 grades, join us for EYC's annual canned food scavenger hunt benefiting Inter-faith Food Shuttle and the Raleigh community. We'll go door-to-door collecting canned foods all for a great cause!

Parent drivers are needed to make this event happen! If you can help transport students, please contact Abby, vannoppen@holyichael.org.
