Youth Ministry

The St. Michael's Episcopal Youth Community, or EYC, is among our most vibrant parish ministries. Lead by Abby Van Noppen, our Director of Youth Ministry, and a team of adult leaders, the EYC meets regularly for youth group, bible study, fellowship, and fun events.


2017-18 Weekly Schedule

September 2017 - May 2018

Sundays

5 - 6:30 p.m. — Jr EYC — 6th-8th grades
6 - 7:30  p.m.  Sr EYC — 9th-12th grades
(6 - 6:30 p.m. - Dinner for all)

Tuesdays

7 - 8 p.m. —  High School Bible Study
We meet weekly in the youth room,
snacks provided!

Wednesdays

5 - 6 p.m.  — Middle School Bible Study
Exploring different stories in the bible and how they relate to us today.


Abby

Abby Van Noppen
Director of Youth Ministry

 Abby joined our team in February 2014 after directing the Y Guides program for the YMCA of the Triangle. A lifelong Episcopalian, Abby brings her infectious energy to everything she does, and has a wealth of experience working with children and teens. She has also served as Health and Wellness director for the Chapel Hill YMCA and as assistant director of Campus Recreation for Elon University. She and her husband, Chance, have a two-year-old daughter, Maggie.

StepUp Meal Service Night

Raleigh, NC
June 18, 2017
Register by Monday, July 17, 2017

Join us for a fun night of service with StepUp Ministry! We will provide a catered meal, serve and clean up for StepUp Ministry's summer meal program. Students in the 6-12 grades are welcome and a few parents are needed as well. We'll be serving roughly 150 people for a great night of service! 

Where | White Memorial Presbyterian Church - Raleigh, NC
When | Tuesday, June 18, 2017 from 5-6:45pm
What To Bring | A baseball cap to keep hair back (hair nets will also be provided)
No Cost | dinner provided after we serve participants & families

 


Don't miss out on this fun, summer service week for rising 6-8 grade students. This is a great introduction to Jr. EYC before the Fall Kickoff!

Serving different ministries in our own backyard, come along as we experience service in the Raleigh community. Each morning we will serve the littlest parishioners of St. Michael’s with Vacation Bible School! The afternoon's we’ll serve the greater Raleigh community helping Camden Street Learning Garden, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Urban Ministries.

Time | 8:30am to 4pm - drop off and pick up will be at St. Michael's Episcopal Church
Cost | $30
Thing to bring | A sack lunch with a water bottle will be needed each day
Volunteers | We will need a few parent volunteers in the afternoon from 12-4pm. Please contact Abby if you can help out!

Missionpalooza

For 6-8 grade students
July 31 - August 3
Register by Monday, July 24, 2017 or until registration is full.


A long-standing St. Michael’s tradition is the high school summer mission trip, for rising 9-12 grades. Come along as we serve families in need through significant home repairs. This year’s Reach Mission Trip will be in Stanton, Kentucky from June 25 - July 2, 2017.

We can promise a great week, amazing friendships and an unforgettable experience!

Where | Stanton, Kentucky
Cost | $410 – Students will also need spending money for five meals on the road, our Wednesday Wal-Mart/Goodwill trip (around $130).

Eligibility Requirements & Forms Needed

All payments must be made on or before April 1, 2017. Individual cancellations made on or before April 1, will receive a refund minus a $50 deposit. Due to the nature of this trip, there are no refunds after April 1, 2017.

High School Mission Trip

Don’t miss this laid back, beach front weekend! It’s a great time to hang out, connect with God and recharge.

Where: Atlantic Beach, NC (beach-front house)
Cost | $50 - students will need money for two fast-food stops.
Things to bring: one overnight bag/person, sleeping bag, pillow, towel/toiletries, etc.
